Caravan Weight Distribution Kits
Did you know that towing without a caravan weight distribution kit can result in your RV swaying, reduced steering and braking responsiveness, less traction, and misaligned headlamps? Over time, you may also notice reductions in fuel economy and increased tyre wear. This can all be quite unnerving, particularly for the novice caravanner.
By using a caravan weight distribution hitch, however, the tow ball weight will remain the same as the load will be evenly distributed to all four of the vehicle’s wheels. It is important that the capacity of the system is correct and that the manufacturer’s recommendations have been followed.
A system to suit every situation
At Camec, we have a variety of distribution kits to choose from to ensure that there is an option to suit every sort of towing situation. Kits are generally rated mini, intermediate, medium, heavy or super heavy – to determine what size you require, you will need to work out the ball weight of your RV.
Control and minimise sway
Many people find sway to be one of the scariest issues that they encounter whilst towing. As it does pose the potential to cause an accident, finding ways to control and minimise sway are a must. The addition of weight distribution bars for towing can be highly useful for this.
When do I need a weight distribution hitch?
If your RV’s ball weight is causing the back end of the van to sag, a hitch can be used to return the van to its normal height and ensure that you have full traction (necessary for braking and steering control).
