When you think of Perth it’s pretty hard to go past the iconic Cottesloe Beach. This historic location is located halfway between Fremantle and Perth. Bring your towels and sunscreen, as you will find yourself easily dreaming away the sunlight hours. Perfect for snorkelling, there’s something for both the adults and the kids to enjoy.
We know Kings Park comes up a lot when people talk about Perth! But there’s a reason. These beautiful Botanic Gardens are located right in the inner city and are home to over 3,000 native flora. It’s not just your classic park too, there is plenty to do — from guided walks to kids play areas you won’t even realise you’re still in the city.
Want to see dolphins, sea lions and penguins all in one spot? Shoalwater Islands Marine Park is well worth the 50-minute drive from the city. The perfect spot for spending a day, it has water so clear you can count the fishes. Go snorkelling and bring your fishing rod, just check any restrictions before you go!’
With free entry, you can’t go wrong with spending the day hurtling down the sand. The perfect activity for overactive kids and daring adults at Lancelin, you can bring your own board or hire one for a small fee. Just remember to pack your sunnies! And plenty of water.
Perth just might have something up on the other capital cities — way less light pollution. While there are several great paid observatories, you can actually go stargazing completelyfor free! It’s well worth taking the drive to The Pinnacles. This stunning limestone rockformation makes the perfect spot to stop and look at the stars.
An absolute must-see, the Fremantle Markets have been around for over 100 years and show no signs of slowing down. With over 150 stalls to choose from, there’s something for everyone. Grab breakfast and head down to the water to watch the sunrise.
You have to visit the Art Gallery. Located in the Perth Cultural Centre, the Art Gallery of Western Australia hosts a wide variety of exhibits and talks throughout the year. The greatest part is that it’s right next to the theatre so make sure you check out the local art scene too.
This isn’t your average boring museum, this is one for the adventurers and pirates. Brush up on your maritime archeology at the WA Shipwrecks Museum. Perfect for curious kids and adults alike — there’s even original ship timbers from shipwrecks from the 1600s!
If you’re lucky enough to be visiting in March, why not check out the Sculptures by the Sea? This free exhibition runs once a year and brings together a whole range of sculptural piecesof art. Located at Cottesloe Beach indulge in some fine art and culture amongst the seagulls.
It’s time to kick back and relax with the best music WA has to offer. Every Sunday from 2-4 pm from October to March Perth hosts a free public music event. Located at the Fremantle Arts Centre, you can even bring a picnic basket and make an evening out of it.
